After a whole semester of waiting, we finally got to go back home to
Texas! It was perfect because my sister had flown home from BYU Hawaii,
so we were all together for Christmas. David and Sarah even brought
their pups over to celebrate with us. It was amazing to leave snowy Utah
and embrace the 70 degree weather that greeted us! I got in three 15+
mile bike rides, ran 5.5 miles, and went on 3 jog/ power walks while I
was there. The first night we arrived, we all got to open a present.
Lizzey and I
got Victoria Secret PJs, and Mike got new basketball shoes. While in Texas, I got to
spend a day and a half working hygiene for a mobile clinic in Lewisville. That was a very different, but very fun experience. We had our
annual cookie bake while the boys went bird hunting in Gainesville. We also saw the Hobbit, and Les Miserables. Mike
went with my parents to see Lincoln one day while I was working. David
and Sarah got a new hot tub, so one night we sat in it while eating
pizza. We also got to go to our favorite restaurant Salernos! The best
Italian food out there for sure. We played many card games, and danced
around the house singing to Christmas music. One of my favorite
Christmas traditions, is our sing along Christmas story. We invited our good
family friends over to sing/ read it with us. They brought their guitar
and many hand instruments like tambourines, a rain stick, and
percussion sticks . Their daughter also played the piano, while we all
sung along with our instruments. It was so much fun and got everyone in
the Christmas spirit. My family always has a big celebration on
Christmas Eve, with a big dinner, and we open all the family presents.
Grandpa John always comes to our Christmas Eve party too. Our main
course was the pheasant/quail/chucker birds the boys had shot, and prime
rib. We also had this amazing raspberry pear salad, and all the typical
side dishes. After, we all opened presents. The girls all got new
purses and wallets, while the boys got new watches. Sarah and David gave
us gift baskets, and inside was her homemade white chocolate blueberry
fudge. Which is AMAZING! There was also homemade honey butter too, which
I can't wait to try when I make homemade bread (using my new Kitchen
Aid!!- we'll get to that in another post). Mike and I got my dad a pair of touch
screen cycling gloves, which he wore the entire night and next day. I
think he liked them! We got to stay in Texas an extra 3 days, because
our flight got canceled- due to a "Dallas Blizzard" of 4 inches of snow.
We were there the 18-29th. I always love every minute I get to spend
with my family, and the memories we make when we are all together.
