4th of July 14ers

This year for 4th of July and in honor of my dad's 50th birthday, we decided to road trip to Denver to hike our first 14er (14,000 ft peak). We decided on Gray's and Torrey's peak, because they are sister peaks that can both be hiked in one day. They are about an hour hike away from each other. We stayed at the cutest bed and breakfast in a small town just 20 minutes from the base of the mountain called Georgetown. The town was at about 9,000ft elevation and the weather day and night was just beautiful and breezy.

The hike took us about 8 hours round trip to summit both peaks. The last 45 minutes were pretty miserable and I ran out of water (luckily I drank Mike's). I always hate hiking downhill because my knees hurt. After 8 hours of hiking and mountain climbing, my feet were tired and I was thirsty. Only Mike knew, but I was almost 6 weeks pregnant and I went pee about 7 times on during the hike. I also had to secretly avoid taking Advil before and after hiking and avoid sitting in the hot tub with the rest of the family. We loved being back in the mountains, and I thought our 14er excursion made for an awesome 4th of July vacation.
